Our Local Partnerships Programme launched in 2021, with the aim of supporting and bringing to light the work of some amazing local animal welfare organisations across Greece. This year, we have chosen more small organisations to provide vital funding, and over the course of the year will give updates on the animals it’s helping. Our fourth and final Local Partners of 2022 are Arcadia Animal Care
Arcadia Animal Care provides rescue, shelter, and advocacy for abused and neglected animals in the State of Arcadia, Greece. The situation with stray animals in this area is particularly dire, and more education and advocacy is desperately needed. The group was founded in 2015, in response to the growing number of stray animals and numerous incidents of animal abuse in Tripoli, the capital city of the region of Arcadia. Their shelter is home to dogs, cats, donkeys, pigs and sheep, and welcomes volunteers! Their team regularly feed, neuter, de-flea, de-worm street cats and dogs, finding them adoptive homes and rescuing those in need of medical treatment.
The area witnessed the worst of the wildfires in Summer 2021, and thanks to donations, we were able to fund the medical treatment of the 19 animals that Animal Arcadia Care welcomed into their shelter; including strays, farm animals and donkeys suffering with severe burns.
